Ever since I attended one of their outdoor concerts, I’ve become a huge fan of From the Earth Brewery in Roswell. It’s one of my favorite places to unwind and enjoy a truly unique dining experience. One of the cool things about From the Earth is that it is a restaurant, brewery, and concert venue all in one. From the music selection to the craftsmanship in food preparation, From the Earth is my go-to spot when I want to relax in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
For the second episode of Kylie’s Accessibility Adventures, I decided to visit From the Earth to evaluate its accessibility.
I have been going to From the Earth for about three years. My first experience was attending one of their outdoor concerts held in the large parking lot behind the restaurant. The space was very accessible, and I had a fantastic time. After that, I was excited to try the restaurant itself.
Let’s see how accessible it is.
Finding the Place
From the Earth Brewery is conveniently located in a large plaza on Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell. Although it’s part of a bigger shopping area with other venues, the brewery is easy to locate using GPS.
Score: 5
The Parking
The parking at From the Earth is excellent. The restaurant is in a spacious shopping area with plenty of parking spaces. Near the entrance, there are several accessible spots. Each spot provides plenty of room for someone in a wheelchair to let a ramp out of their car.
Score: 5
The Entrance
The restaurant’s entrance consists of a single door that opens outward. Even though it swings outward, I had no difficulty entering. The doorframe was wide enough for my wheelchair to pass through comfortably.
Score: 5
Inside From The Earth
There was enough space between the tables for me to pass by. The best thing about the tables and chairs is that they can be moved around, making it convenient for people in wheelchairs to get around and find a comfortable place to sit. When tables are stationary, people with disabilities have fewer options for where they can sit, so it is helpful that the tables can be moved. Another good thing is that I could get my wheelchair under the table without lowering it.
Score: 5
How Easy Is It to Read The Menu
The menu at From the Earth was easy to read overall. I think the font could have been a little larger. There was no digital option for the menu that would help people who are blind. Having a digital option could allow the software to read the menu out loud. To bring the score to a 5, I recommend creating alternative menu formats accessible to people of all abilities.
Score 4.8
From the Earth Staff
The server at From the Earth was friendly and helpful. She spoke directly to me and took the time to understand what I was saying, rather than looking to others for clarification. I truly appreciate when servers make an effort to communicate with me directly.
Score: 5
Over the past three years, I have made some great memories at From the Earth. I discovered From the Earth through my friend Scott. He was managing cover bands, and one of the bands was playing at an outdoor concert there. Scott suggested I go with him because he knows I love music and being outside. My dad and I met Scott at the parking lot behind the restaurant. We were surprised at how accessible it was. We pulled into the parking lot, and the pop-up stage was right there. There was plenty of room to dance and hang out, and I could get as close to the band as I wanted to. I am not great at dancing, but at least I dance better than Scott. LOL. All three of us had a blast. It was so good we brought my mom and a few more friends to another show.
Last summer, my friend and colleague Rick Sebastian was in town for a visit. Rick loves to check out local breweries when he travels, so I wanted to take him to From the Earth. My parents and I took him there for dinner. We all had a delicious meal and had fun trying the local craft beer.
Austin Clark, the general manager at From the Earth, was very attentive to our needs. He greeted us when we arrived and checked on us periodically to see if we needed anything. It was a fantastic night.
I enjoyed my experience at From the Earth Brewery. The food is great, and the restaurant is accessible and accommodating for people with disabilities. I would also recommend their outdoor concerts, which are also accessible.
